Real Weapon Customization
okay, i will admit, when i bought the game and saw in the manual that you could customize weapons, i was mind-blown at the possibilities. i could make my weapon incredibly original. when i found out that it was nothing of the sort, i was a bit disapointed. but how about if you really could. go to a weapon customizer and a window opens showing your current weapon arrows or drop-down menus next to each customizeable part (for a sword, hilt, pommel, grip, blade appearance and length) let you chose different parts to build your weapon with. like now, customizing adds 20% dmg and makes it so only you can use the weapon. cost is determined by the parts you chose, and more become available as the game goes on. a nice signature touch to add to your character. you could even re-name the weapon. comments? suggestions?

it would be kind of neat, but a lot of this game is focused on looks, and this would remove the collection value of greens and collector weapons.
what would be kind of nice though is when you get a weapon crafted at a weaponsmith, you can choose at least a few basic things about it's shape, size, etc.

No offense, but I don't think this is likely to happen. You can do a good bit of the type of customization I think you want through upgrades to weapons. Granted, being able to buy these from merchants would be amazing, but it's not like you can't manipulate your weapon stats as it is right now.
Edit: Maybe I misunderstood... if you mean the skin/appearance, then I'm with you 100%

yes, just the skin. you can still use the upgrades to add the mods, and the damage stays as when you get the weapon. its just another chance to show individuality. plus, i can already think of quite a few awsome looking swords and hammers.

I'm all for this idea. Use an interface window like what they have for capes, you can choose colors (that you must have dyes for in order to use the color), details, or even add a cool glow to it would be cool maybe wreath it in flame like the firey dragon sword.

This would make the value of nice-looking weapons like Fellblades go down... EXCELLENT!

like it or not, a big chunk of the gw economy is based on nice looking things being more expensive. if we can make our own nice looking things, what the hell are high levels with 200k going to spend their monies on?
i guess im kind of against this idea, simply because it seems very "un-guild wars"

A high level with 200k, is the reason that some things are so expensive, but that is a completely eifferent topic.
A big chunk of the GW economy, currently, is out of whack.
If you could do this, for appearance purposes only, an npc vendor with a set price, anyone wanting to sell a specific bow(for example) just for it's looks, would have to match or undercut the NPCs.
Prices could fluctuate as they do for dye's and runes, but by weapon type/damage range.(a low level bow, customized, would be cheap, a high level would be quite expensive)
And of course, every town with one, would have to build up from the last. So ascalon noobs wouldn't have the coolest.
You would probably have to use wood planks and iron/steel ingots to change appearances, as well as appropriate dyes.
But also, you'd have to still be able to tell the difference between bow types, no matter how much you change it. Ie, you wouldn't be able to make a stormbow from any other type of bow. You'd have to be able to eye the curve of a longbow, as a further example.
In that respect, it's very guild wars, if it works like that. Just as GW as dyes and runes.

the concept of having to pay large amount both in gold an materials to customize your weapon is very guild wars.
i wasn't aware that was being discussed. i though we were talking about the 10g customize.

but, make it so you have to bring the materials and money to a remote hard to get to location to see a forgeman for him to craft your weapon, and as soon as you get it, it is customized to you and cannot be used by others
would bring a nice balance to the economy as those silly "good" looking weapons wouldn't be going for so much if you could make an even better looking one for cheaper, or more expensive, depending on what components you use.
